Down to the Wire: Obama vs. McCain

Hot Issues •
This past month, Barna put out an article on the results of a nationwide survey of people’s candidate preference. It said:
“The dominant reasons for voters supporting Barack Obama are his efforts to introduce change or new ideas (listed by 28% of his likely voters); his affiliation with the Democratic Party (15%); his positions regarding the economy (14%); his stand on the war (10%); and voters liking him as a person (10%).
“The primary reasons why John McCain’s supporters back him include his experience (24%); his affiliation with the Republican Party (14%); the perception that he knows what America needs (13%); and his stands regarding the economy (10%).”
Among evangelicals, Barna says, “83% are likely to vote in November” and “nearly one-quarter of this segment (23%) is still undecided about who they will vote for.”
“For the most part, the various faith communities of the U.S. currently support Sen. Obama for the presidency. Among the 19 faith segments that The Barna Group tracks, evangelicals were the only segment to throw its support to Sen. McCain.”
This is all fine and great. It looks like people are divided—some are rooting for Sen. Obama and others are diehard McCain fans. But the most important question remains: Are you voting for the person or for the values you believe in?
Recently, I had a conversation with several friends about their candidate choices. Some were decidedly for McCain and the others for Obama. Then, I asked, “Do their values align with yours?”
Some responded that they did and the others (the majority) had decided upon one candidate or the other merely because they were attracted to the person they portrayed themselves to be.
As we near the day when all will be decided don’t get caught up in the hype. Do your research and make sure you know what you believe according to God’s Word. Ask yourself if the candidate you’re leaning toward is going to implement the values you truly believe in. Ask yourself what the long-term effects of their presidency may hold for our country. Then, pray and ask God to reveal whom you should cast your vote for.

This was pulled from a newspaper article from someone who knows Palin, Check it out,
ABOUT SARAH PALIN
I am a resident of Wasilla, Alaska. I have known Sarah since 1992. Everyone here knows Sarah, so it is nothing special to say we are on a first-name basis. Our children have attended the same schools. Her father was my child’s favorite substitute teacher. I also am on a first name basis with her parents and mother-in-law. I attended more City Council meetings during her administration than about 99% of the residents of the city.
CLAIM VS FACT
*"Hockey mom”: true for a few years
*"PTA mom”: true years ago when her first-born was in elementary school, not since
*"NRA supporter”: absolutely true
*social conservative: mixed. Opposes gay marriage, BUT vetoed a bill that would have denied benefits to employees in same-sex relationships (said she did this because it was unconstitutional) .
*pro-creationism: mixed. Supports it, BUT did nothing as Governor to promote it.
*"Pro-life": mixed. Knowingly gave birth to a Down’s syndrome baby BUT declined to call a special legislative session on some pro-life legislation
*"Experienced": Some high schools have more students than Wasilla has residents. Many cities have more residents than the state of Alaska. No legislative experience other than City Council. Little hands-on supervisory or managerial experience; needed help of a city administrator to run town of about 5,000.
*political maverick: not at all
*gutsy: absolutely!
*open & transparent: ??? Good at keeping secrets. Not good at explaining actions.
*has a developed philosophy of public policy: no
*"a Greenie”: no. Turned Wasilla into a wasteland of big box stores and disconnected parking lots. Is pro- drilling off-shore and in ANWR.
*fiscal conservative: not by my definition!
*pro-infrastructure: No. Promoted a sports complex and park in a city without a sewage treatment plant or storm drainage system. Built streets to early 20th century standards.
*pro-tax relief: Lowered taxes for businesses, increased tax burden on residents
*pro-small government: No. Oversaw greatest expansion of city government in Wasilla’s history.
*pro-labor/pro- union. No. Just because her husband works union doesn’t make her pro-labor. I have seen nothing to support any claim that she is pro-labor/pro- union.

Telling her FIRST BIG MAJOR LIE in front of millions of people should give you a hint into her character. “I was against the Bridge to Nowhere!” WRONG BABY… you voted for it first until the political backlash got so bad you changed your mind. You accepted those earmarked dollars (i.e. earmarks a thing McCain supposedly hates) and havent returned them… WHERE ARE THEY MS. PALIN??
I looked past all the harraas and yahoo’s and what I saw was nothing but a bunch of mean, nasty, belittling comments directed towards Obama.. AND the usual plug for McCain of POW POW POW POW POW POW rehetoric which was changed only so that the exact words “PRISONER OF WAR” was not exactly said but stated non-the-less in many MANY different ways (notice all the speakers refrained from using that phrase POW) - guess the campaign has figured out that it was getting a bit old and stale, but GUESS WHAT KARL ROVE… the public isnt as stupid as you think they are…
It was obvious that the GOP said to her backstage “go out there and give them hell with slander innuendoes, and downright lies” - And being a pandering VP that is exactly what she did. I especially foundering her lisping “S” unnerving…
I saw a performance Average at best when you pull out all the yahoo’s and yelling in that she gave a speech any AMERICAN MOM could have given. Utterly devoid of ANY MENTION ABOUT THE AMERICAN ECONOMY (but then again ALL the speakers at the GOP convention have stayed AWAY FROM TALKING ABOUT THE ECONOMY).... and isnt this *the* major issue of the election instead of OBAMA bashing??
Oh yeah - I forgot all the anti-abortion talk subtly thrown in (thus the panning of the kids at that time)… I *do* think her selection was very crafty and in afterthought, this whole selection process for Palin was to PLAY THE ABORTION CARD which is the SLEASIEST WAY TO TRY AND WIN AN ELECTION… Anti-Abortionists are pretty much a one-issue voter!!
Moving on to the War - how nice Ms. Palin you are having (ON 9/11 NO LESS....) your Son going into the military. (NO, THE WAY YOU SNUCK IN 9/11 WAS NOT MISSED BY PEOPLE… THAT WAS SLICK, SLEAZY, PANDERING TO NEO-CONS etc...) Lets see how long it takes him to get deployed over to where the *real* fighting is occuring.. (lets keep an eye on that one folks, he’ll probably get stationed in Hawaii)
THIS WHOLE SPEECH WAS EYE AND SOUND CANDY with not much more substance than DRILL NOW AND NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS… Frankly, I would like to save our oil deposits until the rest of the world is bled dry and then drill and charge the rest of the world $500 a barrell of gas… maybe this is the last legacy we can leave our country to help pay our Children’s Children Children debt off to China for all the money we’ve borrowed.
And for Nuclear Power Plants, I am ambivalent, but we need 10 times the safety factors currently used - remember Chernobyl and Three Mile Island - JUST MINUTES FOLKS FROM A NUCLEAR MELTDOWN… and if you dont know what that is, I suggest you research it because it almost happened TWICE and basically you have poisoned the planet on a level of BIBLICAL PROPORTIONS once it happens ONCE!!!! creating a wide path of poisoned and deadly land lasting for centuries thereafter and covering hundreds if not thousands of square miles of land....
and I think that about sums of MOMMA PALINS speech… Average… A one speech even if you want to call it good, does not set the standards for being a Vice-Presidential Candidate one heartbeat away from President… If we put this woman in office, what little respect we have in the rest of the world is LOST…

Well there were a number of lies and since FACTS don’t get in the way for a Republicans speech being good or not . There were many falsehoods but one of the worst was when talking about fighting Washington insider politics and esp. the bridge to nowhere well McCain’s campaign is staffed by some 75 % lobbyist esp. those at the top of his campaign. and yes I know about Bidens 1 son being a lobbyist . Oh and the money for the bridge to nowhere Alaska got it they just didn’t build the bridge they built all the roads going up to where it will begin and as gov. she did a speech to help get this money more on that later and said Washington thinks your nowhere well I don’t and she hired lobby firms to lobby for the money. But she’s an outsider YEAH RIGHT and Rush Limbaugh is a Liberal !!! and it was a Canadian firm she gave the contract to, to build this gas pipeline but their slogan is country first then find an American co. to do the pipeline and saying we need to use American resources the drill here drill now mindset well we used our best resource our brave men and women to fight in Iraq and the Bush admin lets China walk in and get contracts that American firms should have got to develop oil fields in IRAQ fields that will produce and low estimate of 125,000 barrels of oil a week within 3 yrs maybe sooner but BUSH/ McCain and the rest let CHINA our biggest worry for our country out there come in after OUR men and women clear the way with their blood and lives and TAKE a contract to get the oil out of IRAQ right under our noses and our men and women will probably be the ones protecting China’s people in the fields and their equipment and the oil being shipped out and their tankers in the straights with our navy !!! yeah that’s the Kind of leadership we need one last thing She also said that it is their responsibility to leave the country better then it was when they took office !! REALLY well then are your better off NOW then when Bush, who McCain voted with 90% of the time are you better of NOW then when W took over and was rubber stamped by McCain and the rest of the GOP for 7 yrs ? Whats funny too is I did not hear her brag about wanting to ban books at the library in the town she was mayor and when the librarian didn’t she fired her or wanting to teach Creationism in public schools hell the list goes on and NOW her church shut down its website what are they hiding what has she said there what could be worse then what has already come out of there the tape of her saying
“We are doing GODS work in Iraq” and “ We are following GODS PLAN in Iraq “ they take down her soon to be son lin laws My space and twitter page what is so scary there ?
PALIN: “I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending ... and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress ‘thanks but no thanks’ for that Bridge to Nowhere.”
THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a “bridge to nowhere
MCCAIN: “She’s the commander of the Alaska National Guard. ... She has been in charge, and she has had national security as one of her primary responsibilities,” he said on ABC.
THE FACTS: While governors are in charge of their state guard units, that authority ends whenever those units are called to actual military service. When guard units are deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, for example, they assume those duties under “federal status,” which means they report to the Defense Department, not their governors. Alaska’s national guard units have a total of about 4,200 personnel, among the smallest of state guard organizations.
FORMER ARKANSAS GOV. MIKE HUCKABEE: Palin “got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska than Joe Biden got running for president of the United States.”
THE FACTS: A whopper. Palin got 616 votes in the 1996 mayor’s election, and got 909 in her 1999 re-election race, for a total of 1,525. Biden dropped out of the race after the Iowa caucuses, but he still got 76,165 votes in 23 states and the District of Columbia where he was on the ballot during the 2008 presidential primaries.
FORMER MASSACHUSETTS GOV. MITT ROMNEY: “We need change, all right — change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington! We have a prescription for every American who wants change in Washington — throw out the big-government liberals, and elect John McCain and Sarah Palin.”
THE FACTS: A Back-to-the-Future moment. George W. Bush, a conservative Republican, has been president for nearly eight years. And until last year, Republicans controlled Congress. Only since January 2007 have Democrats have been in charge of the House and Senate
MCCAIN: “She’s been governor of our largest state, in charge of 20 percent of America’s energy supply ... She’s responsible for 20 percent of the nation’s energy supply. I’m entertained by the comparison and I hope we can keep making that comparison that running a political campaign is somehow comparable to being the executive of the largest state in America,” he said in an interview with ABC News’ Charles Gibson.
THE FACTS: McCain’s phrasing exaggerates both claims. Palin is governor of a state that ranks second nationally in crude oil production, but she’s no more “responsible” for that resource than President Bush was when he was governor of Texas, another oil-producing state. In fact, her primary power is the ability to tax oil, which she did in concert with the Alaska Legislature. And where Alaska is the largest state in America, McCain could as easily have called it the 47th largest state — by population. they love to take numbers an use them in ways like this to make them look good but it just shows they know what they are saying and KNOW its a lie or an exageration and don’t care ! win at ANY cost even the truth.
