Pray for the Election

The challenge to voters in this year’s elections can be found in Galatians 5:1: Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free.

This election, as every election, will be decided by which “side” gets their base motivated and out to vote. While we should not underestimate the significance of this election; we can be assured there is no way to overestimate the power unleashed when believers commit to pray (James 5:15-17).

As you pray for the outcome of this election, please specifically pray for the following:

1. A large turnout of conscientious, informed voters who will vote their biblically informed values, beliefs, and convictions;
2. The failure of the media to discourage evangelicals or other citizens from going to the polls;
3. A House of Representatives and U.S. Senate that will responsibly oversee the war on terror and that would leave not stone unturned in providing for our nation’s security; that would treat fairly all judicial nominees; that would address the immigration issue; and would handle wisely our country’s fiscal matters, including tax relief and responsible spending;
4. The election or reelection of strong pro-life and sanctity of marriage candidates;

Pray for Our Nation

We have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us! It behooves us, then, to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sins, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness.
