Classic Ads: Nixon For Change

Historical context is a marvelous vantage point. Its contribution to the present is perspective. The muddled is made clear. Relevance may now be declared.

America’s war on terrorism has been dubbed “George Bush’s war” by many wishing to distance themselves from it for the purpose of attracting voters. The rhetoric is blatant and expected as the media likens each conflict to Vietnam. How did the political operatives during the Vietnam era couch this struggle? What context was it given?

Watch this classic political ad from 1960. It is true; there is nothing new under the sun. The message sounds packaged, but timeless. Amazing how history repeats itself even in the details – presidential campaign ads notwithstanding.
