How Can I Get an Absentee Ballot?

Absentee ballots allow individuals who cannot get to their voting locations on Election Day to cast their votes by mail. Absentee ballots are useful for individuals who are traveling or who will be out of the area on Election Day. Military personnel and their families, international business people, college students, vacationers, the homebound, etc. who are going to be hindered from being near their established place of residence on Election Day should request an absentee ballot and vote.

You may request an absentee ballot by contacting your Supervisor of Elections. Remember, it is important to request an absentee ballot early, so you have plenty of time to receive it, vote, and get it back to the elections office by your state’s deadline (check FEC or NASS for these dates).

For more on Absentee Voting, see http://www.fvap.gov/pubs/faq.html

Does each state have different registration requirements?

Yes. Each state has its own voter registration deadlines and requirements.

You may access your state online by simply clicking on your state after you click here.

How do I register to vote?

Registering to vote is easy. The National Voter Registration Act allows U.S. citizens to register to vote by mail in most states.

Three Simple Steps:

1. Complete the registration form.
2. Print it, sign it, and stamp it.
3. Send it (or take it) to the election official in your state.

Where can I go to vote?

Polling places will vary state by state. Often you will find that your polling place is in walking distance from your home. Typically, the election office tells you where your polling place is located when your registration has been finalized. If this is not the case, you can also find your polling place by contacting your Secretary of State or by logging onto http://www.nass.org
